Record collector convention headed to New Orleans

The 2012 International Association of Jazz Record Collectors (IAJRC) convention has been scheduled for September 6-8, this year in New Orleans. The IAJRC is designed to maintain an Association of collectors of jazz recordings of all eras and styles, whether the collectible medium be 78s, vinyl, CDs, tapes, video or films, and to encourage and promote both collecting and research in the related fields of artist, label and discography/filmography. Conventions over the last couple years have been held in Manchester, England and Chicago.

The venue for the convention this year is the 4 star, 693-room Astor Crowne Plaza hotel, which is ideally situated in the French Quarter on the corner of famed Canal and Bourbon streets. The program for the convention includes a “Welcome Pack” upon arrival that’s full of Jazz goodies, 3 days of member’s presentations and guest speakers, record vendors, a hospitality suite, a classic jazz film presentation, a general membership meeting, banquets and awards, live jazz on Saturday night, and a raffle. Convention registration is $130 per person (including the banquet). If you book before May 31st, there is an Early Bird Discount of $15, so you’ll pay just $115. The rate for banquet attendees only, is $55 (includes the live jazz).
